The Environmental Management Group (EMG) works on a range of
projects to implement the environmental strategic objectives of
SSROC. It also provides support in relation to environmental
aspects of other Workgroup projects.
The Group endeavours to deliver projects that will achieve real
outcomes in these areas. Members of the Group are council staff and
include geographers, scientists, environmental health and education
professionals. The emphasis is on regional initiatives, since many
environmental issues extend beyond the boundaries of individual
Councils.
The Group is regularly briefed by representatives from state
agencies on new government directives and makes submissions to the
government on these issues in consultation with delegates.
Current Activities
SSROC's environmental strategic objectives are defined in its
workplan, which is set by the elected delegates of the member
Councils and their General Managers. For 2008/09 they are: water,
the carbon economy, planning and builidng codes, and the
integration of strategy and actions.
