The 15 councils that make up
SSROC are responsible for 1.2 million people, of whom, more than
25% are from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
The councils employ 7,535 staff who provide services such as the
maintenance and construction of roads, footpaths and drains,
libraries, community development, planning and environmental
services.
In 2005/2006 councils in the region collected 2,300 kg of
recyclables and 3,500kg of domestic waste, and in 2006/2007
they assessed 12,027 Development and Section 96 applications.
